RICHARD D. SPURLING (Chairman and President)
Mr. Spurling received his early education at St. George’s Grammar School in Bermuda, continuing thru Grade 13 matriculation at Ridley College, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He received a B. A. degree in Business Administration and Masters degree in Business Administration from College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. He obtained a B.A. degree in Law from Trinity College, Oxford University, U.K. He attained the English Bar qualification from The Council of Legal Education, London, England and was called to the English bar in 1976 and the Bermuda Bar in 1977.
Mr. Spurling retired in 2005 as the Senior Partner of a major Bermuda law firm where he specialized in the practice of Corporate and Commercial Law with an emphasis on Insurance/Reinsurance Law.
He has held many positions in church, civic, business and government organizations including election as Member of the Bermuda Parliament in which he served as the Government Whip.
Mr. Spurling is a director of several public companies. He is a director of BF&M Limited and Chairman of their Executive Committee. He is a director of BELCO Holdings Limited and Chairman of their Audit Committee. He is a director of Bermuda Press Holdings, Limited. He also serves as a director of a number of private companies.
He is currently a member of Mid-Ocean Club, St. George’s Dinghy & Sports Club, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Coral Beach Club and Tucker’s Point Club.
